    keeping up

We never can keep up with it all, that's why we have to choose what we mark and what we do not mark or have the student's mark.

As far as tracking homework, the easiest method is to make up a chart with all your student's names on it. Simply write the homework assignment on the top and then check it off when it is handed in. This way you at least have a record of what has come in.

And set aside marking time each week. I know that I have to mark on a daily basis. I do not like marking at school especially after school so I set aside about 30 to 40 minutes each evening just to mark. Usually when I'm watching TV after supper. And some days I don't get around to it and then it does pile up. More often it is not that we can't get it done, it's that we are avoiding getting it done.

It takes time to work out a system and to figure out what you need to mark and what you don't need to mark. Your first year or two will be like this, then you will get a better handle on what you need to mark and how to time it out for when to mark, etc.,

Talk to other teachers in your school as well and find out how they handle things.

I know I haven't given you a direct answer but that's because I don't believe there is a direct answer. Time management is one of the more difficult things for teachers to face - it takes all of us some time to figure out how to manage our time the best to get the most work done.
