Hey Elaine,

How are you doing? I saw your name back on the 2nd Career board. I have been so busy going back to school and starting this year.

Even I don't remember what I put on my ways to relieve stress list. I will
have to create another one, here goes:

Ways to relieve stress at the beginning of the school year....(Warning-may CAUSE stress for others

1) Tell parents that their children still have a chance of getting into your room if they just ask the principal (do this 5 to 10 days after school starts)....

2) Find a storage closet or other place in case you need to "hide" sometime. (Inspired

by a Jerry Seinfield episode where George hid under his desk and took naps.)

3) Instead of buying a classroom pet, lure a "mouse" into a hamster cage by leaving lots of food inside with the door open. It will save you lots of money -- about $4.

4) Download Etta Jame's "At last" long version -- great song!

5) For your classroom supply list just write -- "Same stuff you used last year!" or "What ever you want to buy!(Parents LOVE that one)"

6) Study Big Brother 3 and Survivor for tactics on how to survive the teacher's lounge..."Keep your lips shut and your eyes wide open"

7) Arrange with grade-level teachers that anytime one of you is out the SUBSTITUTE does the unwanted duty: cars or buses, assembly, recess, whatever. Just write "recess duty" on the sub plans.

8) To get teachers/principals to do wonderful things for their students or staff, brag about other teachers/principals that are doing wonderful things for their students or staff and the surprise parties/gifts accolades they recieved at their schools for doing it.

8) Assign as weekend homework: "Watch Cartoons. Create a Venn Diagram comparing the Justice League with the X-men", or "Answer the question: How come the Powerpuff girls don't have any fingers?"

9) Listen to Bluegrass and imagine...chances are that you CAN sing well enough to sing bluegrass! Think about the recording career you could have had. (Hey I am a fan.)

10) When your kids are at a special -- watch something on tv that you like while you grade papers.

11) Accept the fact that you can't sleep and do something productive like making a list like this one. Take a long cat nap when you get home...
