I'm also in WI - south central. I know each school has different timelines for moving from the sub. rate to the teacher's rate but I'm pretty sure that benefits are not offered, except for the mandatory FICA/worker's comp. coverage.

In WI (and I'm guessing most other states) teachers and others with the schools are included with a state employee retirement fund. The WI plan does provide coverage for part-time teachers using a threshold of a # of hours over a period of time. But I suspect you would have to work in a very long term situation to meet that number and I suspect schools are very good about making sure sub's and other part-timers do not get enough hours to qualify.

In my case my wife is a Postmaster with good benefits so she carries both of us for insurance, etc.

    Best, Ken in WI
