I did something similar this year - I have a list of classroom helpers that the students apply for. They give their 1st-5th choices, in case others apply for it also. They also give reasons why they should be chosen for the job. They keep the job for one month, then they apply for another job next month. It helps them become proficient in one thing, and I don't have to change it every week! It seems to be working well for me!!
