working at a reserve school

Clip to ScrapBook
Jennifer, I really feel for you. I have known many people who have taught at band run schools, and federal run schools. Have you taught there for long? Band run schools tend to run differently, they will tell you what
grade you are teaching by the first day of school, it is very political, some teachers will get their choice of positions and some will not. My sister works at a school, where they got a brand new principal/superintendent, he fired almost all the teachers, and even though he renewed some contracts he let them go a week ago. Some went to a lawyer, but there is really nothing they could
do, except get mad. Many of the new teachers do not even have teaching certificates but that is okay because it is a band school. I really do feel for you because you really are in a bad spot, you don't want to take too much action or they will get mad at you and yet you want to get your room ready. I hope everything turns out. What province are you in? Do you live at home and commute? I really think that teaching at native schools does have an advantage you really learn how to teach and how to deal with behaviour. I believe that some of the best teachers I know are either teaching in native schools or have trained in some. Hard work but very rewarding. I personally teach at a Metis school, and commute 45 minutes each way, but I work for a public system. Therefore I belong to the ATA, and get very good benefits. I feel secure in my job and I really love it. Email me if you want to talk more, but I do know how you feel and I know why you feel that way. Frustrated.
