IEP Suggestions
By Shirley

Clip to ScrapBook
Congrats on your new job. Do not be overly concerned about IEP meetings. Your coordinator should lead the meetings. He/She will probably start out with introductions and a brief explanation of the purpose of the meeting.
When sharing information with parents regarding achievement and levels, be as positive as possible. That can sometimes be difficult, but I have always found at least a couple of great things to say about every child. When you are sharing your goals and objectives you do not have to read off every one. Give the parents a brief overview and then let them ask you questions. One thing
that can really put parents off is to give the impression that you feel you need to explain every dot and dash to them.
Most important!!! Don't look at your watch no matter how long the meeting seems to be going on. We always have a predetermined signal that the meeting needs to end (usually the secretary or principal will buzz the room for one of us in the meeting).
Have a great year!!
