Responsive Classroom
By Pat

Clip to ScrapBook
Kris,Responsive classroom is the name for a whole teaching program and philosophy. Most of the ideas are found in the book "Teaching Children to Care" by Ruth Charney. It is administrated by the Northeast Foundation for Children.
The whole idea behind it is that we manage our classrooms using positive language, logical consequences, and work to build strong classroom community and a sense of responsibility and caring.Morning Meeting is a very basic part of Responsive Classroom. Most teachers do have a morning meeting somewhat like R.C.(responsive classroom) recommends but not as structured and focused. They
do have a website and they publish an excellent, free newsletter. The one I just got has an article of how to determine the developmental levels of the kids coming into your class and also how to effectively get your class to quiet down and listen without yelling "QUIET DOWN and LISTEN". This is a very off the cuff answer to your query,I am sure others will chime in here.
