Clip to ScrapBook
I know how you feel. Been there, done that!
Just decide on basics, like rules and consequences, procedures. Then model, practice, over and over. I am on 9th day tomorrow and realize I will have to start over to review
the rules, etc. Also have lots of transition ideas and activities at hand so that you can get their attention without having to get impatient. I am still learning too so telling myself this as well. I just got some ideas from an experienced teacher who uses incentives for whole class, groups, individuals, etc. For example, for walking in line to lunch, etc. tell them they can earn
links to a chain (or lose the links). I plan to hang the chain from the ceiling and add links, when it reaches the floor we will have a party or something special.
You must get control of the class, be confident, in charge and have a picture of what you want. If you have questions, please email me or others on the list. I hope you get some other replies. Ask your team members if you have them, what they do. All the ideas we can get are helpful.
Good luck.
Jen
