Making their own
By Tia

Clip to ScrapBook
I cut white tagboard into 3 1/2 in. by 12 in. (or so) strips. I have students create their own name tags. (I teach 6th.) Everyone creates 2. One goes on top of their desk--because eventually we move into groups--and the
other goes on the front--at the start of school they are in ROWS. I have the students write large (and not stick letters) so they can be seen across the room. I also encourage them to be colorful and add pictures of things that represent them. This helps me get to know them. I have the students make these the first day of school--this is during the famous supply check! I encourage
them to use marker or pencil--heavy crayon will melt and smear when laminated--and I do laminate them. They generally last 1/2 a year, and I give them time--during read aloud--to make new ones.
