name plates
By Joan

Clip to ScrapBook
I do use name plates on my fifth graders' desks. I buy cursive writing plates to match my theme and use a Sharpie to write names. I laminate them. I too got tired of the gunky tape residue and the pain of changing them,
so for the past five or so years I have been using Velcro. I buy the double stick Velcro tape (Costco) and put two squares on the back of the name plates. Spread the squares the same distance on every name tag. this way, when a seating change is made, the plate is simply ripped off one desk and placed onto another. Another important tip (I learned this the hard way): When I stick
on the Velcro, I reverse it for each end of the plate. The left side would be hook side on the plate and soft side on the desk and the right side soft side on the plate and hook side on the desk. That way, when name plates get worn out and need to be replaced, you don't use up one side of the Velcro, leaving, for instance a long strip of soft side. Does this make sense??? It's hard to explain in writing.
