novels
By jan smith

Clip to ScrapBook
I read them 3 or 4 times a week- sometimes aloud whole group, partners, silent, reading into a tape recorder- I also use that novel- They learn all the skills- prediction, character, plot etc. They learn English- taking sentences from the book without punctuation and then put in the correct punctuation.
We get our spelling list froom the novel.
I teach letter writing- we write letters to the characters. We sometimes put on a reader's theater.
Journal assignments- How do characters feel/ What will happen next. Find a word they don't know and use the dictionary- Kill several birds with that novel!
