Witches
By Anneliese

Clip to ScrapBook
I love that book! I have read it to my 4th graders the last three years and they beg to have me read just a little bit more. I have used it as a read aloud so I haven't done too much with it. It does lend itself to some
great journal responses (i.e What would you like most/least about being turned into a mouse? What else could you invent to help a mouse boy live more easily in your house? Write about the view from the eyes of a mouse. etc.) At the end, students could write a news article about what happened at the hotel. Students can create a next adventure, research the life expectancy of different
mice, rewrite the ending presuming the boy had been turned into something other than a mouse, etc. Hope these help. This is a great book for collecting vivid language on a word wall. The use of vivid verbs is exceptional and the descriptions create wonderful images. By the way, it was also made, very poorly in my opinion, into a movie with a different ending. This could be the basis for a compare and contrast piece or persuasive writing.
