Minute of fame...
By LindaR

Clip to ScrapBook
This approach is VERY unconventional, and may even be critisized, but it was a workable solution for my class clown and me. We discussed it ahead of time, and his dad did not mind...

He was to let me know when he felt
the urge to be the center of attention. I allowed him his "minute of fame" (timer set) in front of the class once a day. Well, this lasted maybe a week...

The kids in the class got tired of his interruptions (by this time I had the Raise Responsibility approach in place, so most of my class wanted to move forward in their learning). Also, this child didn't have the urge when he realized

that he didn't have his adoring fans anymore!

I'm not saying this was the cure-all, as this child has some major personal issues, but it helped him develop a better understanding of the importance of self-control.

I understand what you're going through!
