mentoring
By Nicole

Clip to ScrapBook

Ok, gals. I have been on both sides of the fence. My first year teaching I was assigned a mentor who was not paid, and she never came to my room and hardly ever spoke to me. She was nice, but the program was not up &
running at this time.

Well, eight years later-- I am now the mentor. My mentee doesn't want help or to be observed. She even told my vp that I was stressing her out. So, I started e-mailing her every Monday--- instead of stopping by. This lady did not student teach; so, she really has areas to improve, but doesn't want help. So, waht am I to do?

I check in with her & give her copies

of games or activites I create. That's it. When I became a mentor, I wanted to give back to my profession. Hopefully, this year my new mentee will desire help.

I would blow the situation off. You don't have to have the mentor-- mentee relationship anymore. Be nice & smile at her. I wouldn't ask her questions about her family, etc. Find a friend & stick together. I hope this helps.
