Words to that effect
By Julianne

Clip to ScrapBook
I visited a teacher during her centers and borrowed her wording for when one could interrupt the reading group. When you are:

dead
dying
bleeding
broken bone
throwing up

No mention is made for bathroom as her class (and mine) has a protocol for students to excuse themselves to the bathroom. BTW, the reason this works in my room is that it is so funny to the kids. Of course they know they aren't going to be DEAD for heaven's sake when they need to interrupt you. So later, when one of them does interrupt for an non-emergency request you just look at them and say, "Are you dead???" I like the lighthearted nature of this wording and it works well with my first graders.
