I used Flat Stanley in my room last year, and had moderate success. I had each student bring in an address of a friend or relative who lived somewhere other than our town, and sent a letter to each person with a Flat Stanley
that the student had created. I received 3 or 4 letters back throughout the year, and 1 person actually returned Stanley at the end of the year. The kids loved doing the project, and loved getting posts from Stanley to see where he visited. We had one who actually traveled the world (he went from Oregon to New York (he visited the world trade centers after 9-11) then he traveled

to different countries. That was worth the time and effort we put into it!! I ploan on doing it again this year, hopefully with a little more success!!
