Homework
By Nancy T

Clip to ScrapBook
A good place to start is check to see if your county has any guidelines when giving homework, such as a time allotment, etc.
I've taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. This year I am departmentalizing with another 4th grade
teacher. I will be teaching the math and she will be teaching the reading. Most likely I will be giving math homework 3 - 4 times a week. It may only be 10 -15 problems at the most or to study for a test. I also give daily spelling homework such as one night write each spelling word twice, one night write the words in alphabetical order, one night use at least 6 - 8 of the words
in sentences, etc. As the year progresses, there will be other homework such as studying for social studies, science tests, perhaps a book report once a month, etc.

Most of the homework we grade in class together, so that the students get feed back. I feel some parents may help their child, (it's fine with me), so I do not give grades for the homework. I do note in my grade book a "check" if the student has his homework, or a "zero" if he does not have it.

4th graders are wonderful students and I hope you have an enjoyable school year.
