Subbing and working part-time By CP
|
|
I substitute in PA where I can make either $75 (for intermediate unit) and $80, or $90 a day depending on which school district I'm substituting for. Between the three places, I usually averaged 3 to 5 days a week depending| on the time during the school year and if there is a change in rotation of the sub calling order. I also work at a retail store 5 days a week. After a year, I qualified for health insurance with my other job, so you might want to look into a part time job to cover some of your health insurance costs. I was really hoping not to have to sub and work for this upcomming school year, | | but as the days in August fly by, I'm sadly realizing that I'm going to have to sub again and work at my other job. Towards the end of the last school year when I was subbing 5 days a week and working my other job 5 days a week, I got really burned out and on my one day off from both jobs I usually slept. The manangers that I work for are usually very understanding and let me have a 15 minute break, so I can go to the break room and grab something to eat and drink.Last school year, I was in for teacher for 4 weeks. I never seemed to have enough time to check papers and plan. I would be up till 1am trying to get things done or I would try to wake up early and get things (like checking papers, copying papers etc.) done. If you get a long-term sub position, I would tell you to only work about 3 days a week. Looking back at things now, I wish that I had cut back during those 4 weeks so I could have focused more on teaching and maybe getting noticed by the principal and/or the administration. Oh well, you live and you learn. Hope this helps. Good luck
