I don't know about your curriculum, but where I teach, grades one and two are very similar, just at different levels. For instance, the same math units are taught to each grade, but grade two just learns a little bit more
advanced stuff. In language arts, most teachers have ability groupings anyways, even within a single grade. In science and social, you may want to consider looking into the "project approach"

This way, you only need to pick one project topic that both grades can research and will cover outcomes for both grade levels. I teach in a school that focuses
on differentiation which means that if a child is functioning at the grade 5 level in math (even if he/she is in grade 2)they learn grade 5 material. Sometimes I feel like I teach in a one room school house! But really, it is quite manageable if you look for connections between the curricula. Good luck!
