Hi Jacey,I'm surprised that your school district or area doesn't have standards for grade 1 as well. However I do know there are some areas that don't have curriculum mapped out. I teach in Alberta, Canada so I know | some things will be different, but I'm sure quite a bit especially in Language Arts would be the same and might at least give you a starting point. You can check out my plans from a couple of years ago on our district's web site for new teachers. http://www.fvsd.ab.ca/csm/ Go to grade 1 and mine are listed under Cathy-Dee Brand. I have more | | current year plans as well that include ICT outcomes if you want them too just sent me an email. One thing that really helped me out when I took over for a maternity leave (by the way CONGRATULATIONS ) was to have a basic plan mapped out as a graph.
The teacher took a larger piece of paper (it was a size that fit in our photocopier but was larger than 8 1/2 by 14. She divided up the page and wrote the months on the top and then down the side she wrote the subject areas. In each month she simply jotted down the basics that were to be covered that month - themes, etc., So for language arts it was mostly themes unless she had a novel she was reading marked in or she was focusing on poetry that month For math it was the basics - numbers to 100, addition, subtraction, measurement She also had the units for social studies and science written in and what she was covering in phys ed. So when I took over for her it was easy to see what she had already done, what she was currently working on and what I needed to plan for to finish off the year. Have fun planning your year and I hope the information is what you were looking for.
