Clip to ScrapBook
It's been my experience that it helps to go in person to the business. It's harder to say no to your face. Introduce yourself as a teacher at the local school. Explain your project and how you'd like the business to help. Then give them a written request on school letterhead that includes a contact person at the school. This way they know you are legitimate. If they put you off until later, do ask for a time frame in which to receive a decision so you can look elsewhere for help should they turn you down. Something in the neighborhood of two weeks should be long enough for most businesses to process a request.
