Hi Jen. Way back in 1989, I found out that I was pregnant with twins. It was July, so I told my students when school started up in September. I looked very pregnant right away, so I felt it was appropriate... besides, I couldn't
have contained my joy. Because of the multiple birth, my doctors wanted me to cut back to half days, and then leave work about six weeks early. My babies decided to surprise us all, and came during my seventh month, so I had worked the day I went into labor. Babies are a part of life. As long as you feel like sharing this great news with your class, and are prepared to share the

outcome with them, I don't see a problem with it. They will find out sooner or later. Maybe make it a part of your first day discussion, as you all share your hopes and dreams for the school year. By the way, my daughters are now going into seventh grade, and my former students get a kick out of running into us out and about town. They say things like, "Wow! I remember when your mom was pregnant with you two."
