4th grade reading
By Traci

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi! Welcome to 4th grade! This will be my fifth year teching this grade level and its wonderful!

As for reader response journals they are a part of our reading program (balanced literacy). Each student has a journal in
which they repond to what they are reading. They read literacy books that go along with their ability levels. Some ways in which they respond: Story maps, predictions, personal reflections, write a letter to the teacher discussing a specific aspect of the reading (plot, theme, sequencing, etc.).

As for grading this, we set up a chart listing clear expectations that they are to meet while

working in these journals.

This is separate from their independent reading in which they choose their own books and when they are finished they have a list of activities that they may choose from.

Hope this helps!
