I had a similar dilemma. I was teaching in an alternative program where I was paid hourly and received no benefits. The school loved having me in that position because they could tell parents I was certified. So when a "real" classroom position came available I found out that I wasn't being seriously considered for it, not because I wasn't qualified, but because if they gave me that job, hey, who could they get to take my current place? Few certified teachers in our area would stoop to teaching hourly. I immediately applied for any and every other position available and was eventually hired in another school. My previous school subsequently made two poor hiring choices, both for the position I had vacated, and for the teaching slot I had requested. Poor them! Meanwhile, keep calling personnel. There is something to say about being the "squeeky wheel". Good luck and let us know what happens.
