What area of the south needs teachers desperately

I live in a small town in New York. I keep hearing that there's a teacher shortage. However, I don't think this is the case here. Obviously, like everyone else I worked hard getting my teaching degree. I'm dissapointed because I can not land a job within the public schools. I presently teach at a private school for emotionally disturbed children. It's a great deal of work, plus a long commute, with low pay. I may consider relocating.
