Hmmm... By LindaR

Still thinking :-) I still haven't bought the book, so I don't really know what he suggests aside from the literature and discussion... but I can tell you what I did with the little amount of experience I had with the MM| approach (using conference materials and ideas). My 4th graders were the poster kids for the 'A' level, so it was easy for them to understand what that looked like :-) As a whole class, we brainstormed words and phrases that described the 'A' level, and created a poster from it. What does it look like? What does it sound like? What does it feel like? A lot of sensory words were | | used.Over time, we did this with all 4 levels, and then they created their own little poster (construction paper folded in fourths), drawing a symbol to represent that level and then surrounding it with the key words to describe it. A collage can also be made....using magazines with pictures and cutting out words, too... As I used the language throughout the day, the kids quickly made connections to the meanings of the different levels. So...I'm throwing this idea out for now, but I'm sure once I get going in my classroom this next year, the kids will give me LOTS of ideas :-) I'm looking forward to sharing with you and others who are going this route.
