Tardiness- a pain... By Emily

Our school doesn't deal with it (at least we haven't in the past). It doesn't seem to matter how many tardies a student has, but after 3 it becomes a 1/2 day absent then on 5 it becomes a day absent. So what? I have had some children with 62 tardies in a school year-that's 2 1/2 months of being late to school- ahhhh....
anyway, I think this year we are going to give detention for every 4th tardy in a nine week period. Some think this punishes the child when it's the parents fault- but you can't punish parents with detention, and maybe this is the only way to get to them by punishing their child (who by the way is sometimes to blame also).
I don't know- this is such a difficult subject to figure out...
