I am a fifth grade teacher in Connecticut and I give spelling tests just as many other teachers in my school. I get the list from my curriculum guide and I also use words I see being spelled wrong in their writing. My students have a dictionary(we make) in which they write each word and their defintion. We do spelling activities for homework and during class. They use their "dictionaries" everytime they write. I see major improvement with their spelling.
