Managing AR By Kelly

I have my students set their own goals for a two week period. I have a chart labeled 1 test, 2 tests, 3 tests, and 4 tests. They write their name on a sticky note and put it on the chart. At the end of the two weeks I check| to see who has met their goal. Each student who has met their goal gets a certificate (I made one on the computer and copy it on colored paper). They also get to choose a coupon from a big jar. The coupons are things like free homework pass, sit at the teacher's desk, free center choice, take an AR test first (they get to skip everyone in line), and other things that my students like to | | earn the privilege to do. I only have one computer that they can take tests on, so each student has their name on a card that has a magnet on the back. When they are ready to test they put it on the board. When a student is done taking a test they move their name off the list and go tell the next person it is their turn to take a test. We also work as a class to earn special things like pizza, ice cream sundaes, or their favorite Reading and Game Day (they bring sleeping bags and games...all day we alternate reading for 30 minutes and playing games for 30 minutes). To earn these, each time they pass a test with 80% or higher, they put a cube in the jar. If it is something like Reading and Game Day, then they have to fill the jar with 300 cubes. I know this a long reply! I hope it gives you some more ideas.
