Accelerated Reader

Clip to ScrapBook
Our program is school-wide but you could do a mini version of the same thing in your class. They earn book bucks for their tests. Then they can go shopping with those book bucks. We order things from Oriental Trading and
sell them for 1/2 point, 1 point, 5 pts, 10 pts, and 20pts. We also have paperback books that they can buy for 5 pts. In addition to that, whenever a second grader earns 20 points (which equals about 40 books because most of their books are worth 1/2 point) the principal buys them a happy meal and they all eat lunch together. I have an area on my white board where my students can sign
up to take their tests. They must have read the book 2 times before they can sign up (unless it is my high group with a chapter book) and they must continue to read it until it is their turn. I have 15 students in my class and they took over 1200 tests this year and passed over 1100 of them. They love the program.
