Individualized Spelling

Since these students are not necessarily the best spellers, why not do mini lessons with the 4 blocks to teach skills and connections to other words. Then, individualize the students spelling list each week with misspelled words from their writing journals or stories. This way they are learning the words that they are trying to use and are misspelling, plus it is at THEIR level. I used this system last year and my 6th graders really enjoyed it; I plan on using the same thing this year with 5th grade.
