Stamp ideas

Clip to ScrapBook
I'm not sure exactly what all the stamps look like so I'm not sure if this will work. With my 6th grade class I hand out various foreign coins and we look at what those cultures have chosen to put on the coin. What did they hold as a symbols of importance? Who is the person, or what is the building? Why include words? Of course I do not tell them where they are from either--some coins are obvious, but others are difficult. We look at the coins as if they don't know anything about the culture except for what is on the coin. It is quite amazing how much the kids can hypothesize and put together about a culture from a few symbols, pictures, and words. I would imagine the same could work well with postage stamps.
