2nd Grade

Hi Pat. This year I am switching to 6th grade, but I taught 2nd grade for the last 6 years. At the beginning of the year 2nd graders are so needy. I always used the overhead to do reading and writing lessons. I spent a lot of time making sure that they understood the directions, etc. Still, there are always those who need further help which I gave them. As the year progressed, I still used the overhead alot, but the kids became better independent workers.
Like you, during the first half of the year, I used a lot of first grade supplementary materials.
By the end of the year I usually felt that my students were prepared for 3rd grade. Of course, we have had those benchmark tests at the end of the year for the last two years.
