Word Wall
By Jennifer in OK

Clip to ScrapBook
In our building, we don't have a lot of cinder block walls to post things on. So one of our teachers made a word wall using a shower curtain the she hung from ceiling hooks. I am going to use this idea this year. I am
putting magnetic tape on the curtain so I don't have to manipulate the curtain when I have to put the words in the middle area. The word will have a paper clip on the back. I am the Social Studies teacher for our 4th grade, so my word wall is aimed at geography/history. This is one of our improvement areaas. I don't have a picture yet because I haven't finished putting it together.
(Waiting on the laminator!) As for how you can do a word wall, I would pick one subject that your students are low on (reading vocab., science vocab., Soc. Stud. vocab., etc) and focus only on this area. Go through the book(s) of what you choose to focus on and find your own words. Put them on note cards (I'm using flourescent since my curtain is navy. They'll stand out.) This will save you money since you won't have to buy a company's manufactured ones that may not be 100% doable in your room. You can email me if you would like any mroe info. Hope this helps!!
