I don't think it "dumbs" down anything. Yes you talk to a blow up doll but they are only 5 in K and it's imaginary play. When I used letter people in K the kids loved it. They couldn't wait to find out who the next letter person would be. When you use in combination with other hands on activities it really makes sounds and letters a lot fun. Just a differnt thought
