i did something like that this year for the state of oklahoma. It was a lot of work by it was rewarding. I recieved a stipend and I get to put the program on my resume. Something you may want to think about is doubling up on observations. Let your mentor fill out the paperwork for the program and the district's requirement at the same time. They also paid for subs while I was gone. I would definately go for it.
