2nd year 5th grade teacher

Clip to ScrapBook
I have found that making all of your expectations as clear as possible is extremely helpful. Tell them what you expect as far as behavior, what work should look like, I go over all directions with my students before they
begin working on assignments, tell them what you expect for your classroom routines. We will also be discussing rights and responsiblities, and what fair means. You often get the arguement of, "... but that's not fair!" They are actually an awesome grade level to work with. I think you will enjoy their independence. My class last year was a blast, but it is worth the time in the beginning
of the year to drill your expectations. A great teacher told me she tells her problem students, "We are going to have a great day with you or without you, which will it be?" I also let my students know that we can have a lot of fun with learning or we can sit and do quiet activities at their desk, but their behavior and choices will determine how we learn.
