Clip to ScrapBook
We do spend the first day(s) focusing on introductions, rules, routines, etc. I think it is important, however to dive right in to content as soon as possible. Our students switch classes for math, social studies, and science. On that first day of school, instead of switching classes for 50 min each, we might switch for 20-30 min each. We do an introductory lesson for our content area. Then the next day, although we are still teaching routines, expectations etc. in homeroom, we are beginning our curriculum in those other areas. It lets the kids see that we mean business and don't have time to waste.
