Heres what I would do By CC

I have just finished my first year so I have a little experience. One thing I did on my first day I would not recommend you do. I was excited to get the children settled and so I began right in on what I needed to say.| I was keeping them busy and we were getting to know eachother when one of my students asked me when do we go to breakfast. I forgot to send my students to breakfast and it was now 2.5 hours into the day. I can laugh now but if you have a breakfast program make sure to send your kids. Here is what I think you should do. I would take the first day to go over things like rules, procedures | | for things like attendance, bathroom, and sharpening pencils and whatever else you can think of. Then do some get to know you activities. Then go over some of the things again especially if they are important things like fire drills, tornado, etc. Then do a simple assignment. Have your children interview eachother and write a mini report or something like that. Hand out the text books and have the children look through them and make a list of things that look interesting to them. Then start day 2 with the work. You will find that it is a whole lot better to start off early in the year and get going right away because you will run into days were you will not get to science or math because of something. One last thing OVER PLAN. You will never truly know how long a lesson will take. Oh yeah I almost forgot the most important thing enjoy your first class. The year will go by so fast and before you know it the year is done and they are so much wiser and mature.
