I have been tutoring this summer and tutored in my grad studies in Ed. I use the Bader assessment to find out what reading level the child is on as well as what phonics help they need (whether it be long vowels, blends, etc).| We have a set schedule of things to do. I keep a nice binder for the child. We begin with flashcard review (words they've learned up till now). Then I introduce the new words we'll learn. We do some little activities. For example, if we're learning the "ch" sound, we'll sing the Apples & Bananas song with the ch sound. "I like to cheat, cheat, cheat, chapples, and chananas..." Then | | we'll enter the word in the student's little dictionary(found in the binder w/alphabet tabs). The student also writes their word on a flashcard. I have a thermometer where the students keep up with how many words they've learned and a graph to keep up with how many pages they read each day. I also keep a chart of behavior, for example, a child may forget to put both hands on the paper when writing. They will get a sticker each time they do this for a session. After so many stickers, they get a little prize. Anyway, here's my schedule: flashcard review, intro new words (flashcard, dictionary, thermometer), creative writing, reading (graph pages read), and behavior rewards. Sorry this is so long!
