Clean Desks
By Pam

Clip to ScrapBook
I think teaching the kids how to organize the desk at the beginning of the year and then having one day a week when you set aside time to clean them inside and out is worth the minutes you spend on it. If you put your desks
in a group or have tables you can have a table captain who makes sure all the desks in the group are clean. They love being table captain and it changes each week until each child in the group has had a turn. I also use a desk fairy, but only about once a month. I have 2 rules. You may not have papers in your desk that aren't in a work folder, and you may only have one library book
from the classroom library at a time. Of course, the rule gets broken often, but most do follow it for a day or two after we clean desks. I also think using small ziplock bags to hold crayons and math manipulatives helps keep the desk neat. The worst thing is all the crayon wrappers and pencil shavings they collect.
