directions
By Susan/5th

Clip to ScrapBook
I don't know what grade you teach, but I taught 8th last year and I made sure they understood that if they did not follow my directions then they were in direct violation of the handbook rule (I forget the exact name). A
brief "look" and whisper to "please make the right decision" and they were back on task. Out of the whole year, I wrote up about 5 students (and that was for fighting, so I didn't have a choice). I don't think you should tolerate disrespect, and that's what it is when you let a student get away with doing something against the rules. Most the of the time, when I had a "rowdy group" or
just a rough day with a class, I would announce "If I call your name, you have lunch detention today"....... automatic silence. My point? I don't ignore any behavior - and I warn, then punish anything less than what is expected. Thankfully I only had to get past the warning stage a few times the whole year.
