Just a clarification on my last post

I mentioned about the leagues only going up to elementary - that has been true in the past - but they do occasionally have leagues for the older kids and even adults play from time to time.

And I'm sure if someone is very
talented in my area they will find a way to play more and get noticed and move up in the leagues and may even get into professional hockey at some point. However I do think it is harder for them because we are in a much more remote area than for someone who lived where there were more towns and they were closer together - and this tends to happen closer to the larger centers. I do know
some of the rural areas that are between 100 and 300 km from the 3 main cities have great hockey leagues. It's just a matter of checking first and not just making the assumption that there will be great leagues everywhere.
