messy writing
By Joan

Clip to ScrapBook
If I know a student is capable of neat handwriting (and does not have motor skill or visual perception problems), I would insist that he write neatly in his daily work. In my class we discuss pride in regards to quality
of work. I have "If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well" posted in my room. I also stress that it shows a lack of respect to submit work that is of poor quality. I do not accept messy work. Students must redo until I feel it is satisfactory. This may seem somewhat harsh, and at the beginning of each year, there are several redos. But, the students "get it" quickly and improve
their work quality. I will admit, it is difficult to stick to this standard for those few students who rarely turn in work (and you are just happy to get something from them), but maintaining high penmanship standards is important to me.
