morning work
By Alex

Clip to ScrapBook
I, too, have done grammer in the mornings to get the students busy. I only do it on T,W and F mornings as part of my language arts for the day. On M and Th we do creative journaling. I put up a wacky topic and have them
write for one whole page (I teach 5th). They can write more, but not less. If they run out of things to say about the topic, they draw a line and start a new topic of their own. I choose sticks out of a can randomly to pick 3 students to share their journals. Between the journaling and the sharing it takes up about 25 min. of the morning. Just enough to get morning tasks done.
Sometimes
instead of creative journaling I'll put a brainteaser on the board and in their journal they have to write down how to solve it, or make notes on what they think the answer is. We share these also.
Good luck on figuring out something to work for you!
