grading papers-rubrics
By Lola

Clip to ScrapBook
I have found rubrics especially helpful in grading writing papers. I can focus in on a particular skill and still address mechanics and other writing concerns in a fairly quick manner. There was a rubric site listed on a board on this site somewhere--rubistar something or other--and it is great. But I also use a form rubric I have developed with mechanics on it and then the specific skill I am focusing on. It doesn't solve all the problems but it helps. Another thing I have done for my own sanity is only take about 3-4 writing assignments per 9 weeks to a final rubric grading. I'd like to do more, but I feel like doing this many helps me do them well rather than so many I get overwhelmed. I have more than 1 English class I teach also. Hope this helps.
