Look at your strengths
By Sandra

Clip to ScrapBook
Kathi,
Teaching is also my second career. When I began three years ago the population of students came from families where parents were professionals. I found that my previous business experience elevated their opinions
of me. They respected me for having previous experience and then changing. They also recognized that I had strengths that I'd be sharing with their kids (computer expertise, setting goals, etc.) If you have strengths you want to showcase then let them know.
On a related note, I always found myself saying I was a new teacher because when anyone looked at me they would have measured
me up as a veteran teacher given I was a 42 year old brand new teacher. I always felt a need to say what my experience was so that I wouldn't be judged too harshly if parents or personnel were unaware of my actual experience. Trully, you'll need to decide what is right for you. Best wishes throughout the new school year.
