multiplication info
By Jo

Clip to ScrapBook
When teaching multiplication facts through the 9's you only need to teach 2's, 5's, 4's, 6's, 9's and then 3x3, 3x7, 7x7, 7x8, 8x3, and 8x8 all others are learned. You also teach 2's as doubles. For example 2x4 is double 4's or 4+4
You teach 4's as doubles twice 4x4= (4+4)+ (4+4)
if they have mastered the double concept it is quite easy for them to do 4's. Then 6's you teach --7x6= 7x5+7=42 Nines you teach with the finger method or whatever 9's strategy you use. I usually teach them all. This has made mastery of multiplication facts so much easier for my kids.
We do LOTS of board work and we use individual boards for competitions.
