reading specialist
By Suzanne

Clip to ScrapBook
It may depend upon the district and state requirements, but when I received my reading specialist certificate, I was primarily trained to teach children who had difficulties with reading, although with my certificate I could
aso teach developmental reading. In the school districts where I lived, reading specialists pulled out kids for various remedial programs such as "Reading Recovery." They usually pull out just a few at a time from a given grade level. I would check with the district to see what is required for you to perform this job. Most states which I am familiar with require a certificate in
the area, plus a passing of the Praxis in that area. When I received my Reading Specialist certificate, I also received a Master of Reading degree. You may be required to have a Master of Reading/Reading Specialist certificate.
