I do it this way:
I have all my year-long themed things on permanent bb's or around the room (like attendance, calendar, lunch menu, hall passes, etc) and then when I have curriculum themes pop up I just decorate for them elsewhere (like above the board, on the door). My year-long theme is something that I like (mine is bees) and when the curriculum demands it, I put up extra things to go along with the unit. Think of the year-long theme as the underwear, and the curriculum themes as the clothing. It just changes to meet your needs at the time, but the foundation is always the same.
